The old grammar school in Middleton is a hidden Gem in the Boarshaw area of the town, although the venue is a fantastic and interesting place to work, it presented a real logistical challenge, it was a challenge that was finally solved with some innovative thinking and technology. Here’s a short description of the issues faced and how I solved them.........When the venue is at full capacity, the DJ has no choice but to setup on the upstairs mezzanine, which introduced a though provoking dilemma. Firstly, the speakers would be projecting sound above people’s heads, secondly, and more importantly, the main dance area was on the ground floor on the opposite side to where the DJ’s setup was positioned. Naturally, if the volume was low in this area, people would lose interest in dancing, but to hype the volume up would infringe on the tables near the DJ setup where people are having a social chat. The obvious answer was to have the speakers located in the dance floor area, however, it was impractical and too time consuming to run very long cables down and over to this part of the building from the mezzanine but I had an Ace up my sleeve! To solve this problem I used a professional wireless audio system and the result was surround sound and excellent volume on the dance floor area, yet a pleasant listening volume where people was seated socialising. I used a total of six speakers, four of which was used in the dance floor area; two sub bass speakers and two full range speakers. The result was amazing audio quality and a packed dance floor all night as shown in the picture below.
