Mottram Hall is a typical spa type hotel and wedding venue with a golf course. It has a selection of conference and function rooms and the staff are very attentive to their clients. On a slightly separate note, and without singling out any particular venue, beware of booking any venue for your wedding or party if guest’s rooms are fairly near the function room. Whilst I always aim to keep the volume at a nice level, and use a high definition sound system, maintaining a reasonable volume can be essential to creating a great atmosphere on the dance floor. Management of some hotels can often keep on top of the DJ regarding the volume to a point where it can ruin the atmosphere be insisting on very low volumes. I don’t really like to make negative comments, but I feel that the volume issue can often be conveniently not mentioned to clients when they are taking a booking for what is one is one of the most important days of their lives. My advise to anyone looking at wedding venues is to ask if there would be any issues with volume, also ask if there is a sound limiter as there is no point in the DJ or band bringing in bass bins. Sound limiters are extra sensitive to bass bins, so it’s best to use simple mid range speaker system under these circumstances to maintain a reasonable volume without the sound limiter cutting the power to the band or DJ. Another visit to the fisherman’s retreat in Ramsbottom, I really love this venue for all kinds of reasons, firstly, easy access for loading, flexible setup times and most importantly, a very well presented unique venue, professional staff and fantastic food. The function room is fairly wide and the dance floor area covers the whole width of the venue too. The width of the venue presents a slight challenge in audio distribution and the only way to over come this is to install extra speakers. Excellent audio distribution is vital, firstly, it covers the whole dance area and when people can feel the music all around them, they tend to enjoy dancing, secondly, excellent audio distribution enables guests to still have a conversation without harsh volumes. (I also supplied the mood lighting on this particular wedding)
Being versatile with equipment can make a real difference to an event. For example, the picture shown here was for a presentation event at the Heyside Cricket club in Royton, not only was space an issue, but the close proximity of a microphone for the awards naturally created a challenge with feedback issues due to the microphone being used very close to the speakers. The ideal solution was a set of FBT array speakers. (The FBT array speakers are the ‘tall black sticks’ for those who are not sure what is shown in the picture above, they don’t visually resemble traditional speakers) Not only are FBT array speakers deliver amazing high definition sound, but the design also means they are feedback resistant and fit into smaller spaces. Despite these speakers being slim and discrete, they have an amazing punch!
Newlyweds, party organisers and corperate businesses often opt for making their names, brands, or brand new Mr/Mrs and Mr/Mrs surnames a proud and prominent visual part of the celebrations. Our DJ booth has even been used on Channels 4's famous TV programme '8 out of 10 cats does countdown' (Yes, Jimmy Carr became a DJ for 30 seconds)
It's not everyday I get to work under the iconic concorde, what a fabulous place to have a wedding! The whole hanger will eventually be up lit with my mood lighting and I will use 8 speakers for audio (pictures of the complete setup will be uploaded in July this year for those who would like to consider something different for their own wedding, today was just a survey visit and to meet my clients.
It’s not often I get chance to play very locally, but when I do, it’s always a real pleasure to work at the Middleton Masonic Hall. (also known as the Middleton Pavilion) Not only is it easy access for heavy equipment, but Pete and Barbara who manage the venue are always very accommodating and flexible with access times too. From the client’s point of view, the venue is kept to a very high standard and run in a very friendly but extremely professional manner. The venue caters for any occasion, but weddings are Barbara's speciality as she also offers an amazing venue dressing service. I have recently worked at the Middleton Masonic hall on a number of occasions and witnessed first hand how well both Pete and Barbara look after their clients. If you're looking for a venue local to Middleton and surrounding areas, the Masonic Hall is highly recommended, offering great value for money, fantastic food, late license until 1.00am and the recent introduction of the 'FREE Friday' promotion which means there is no charge to hire the room on Fridays!
Great savings on wedding packages this season, for example, hire mood lighting, ceremony PA; wedding DJ with disco with 5ft LOVE letters and save up to £100. The option to have the wireless speaker system with the PA or disco offers fantastic flexibility when it comes to large venues, odd shaped rooms, or venues where the DJ setup is far away from the dance floor area.
The old grammar school in Middleton is a hidden Gem in the Boarshaw area of the town, although the venue is a fantastic and interesting place to work, it presented a real logistical challenge, it was a challenge that was finally solved with some innovative thinking and technology. Here’s a short description of the issues faced and how I solved them.........When the venue is at full capacity, the DJ has no choice but to setup on the upstairs mezzanine, which introduced a though provoking dilemma. Firstly, the speakers would be projecting sound above people’s heads, secondly, and more importantly, the main dance area was on the ground floor on the opposite side to where the DJ’s setup was positioned. Naturally, if the volume was low in this area, people would lose interest in dancing, but to hype the volume up would infringe on the tables near the DJ setup where people are having a social chat. The obvious answer was to have the speakers located in the dance floor area, however, it was impractical and too time consuming to run very long cables down and over to this part of the building from the mezzanine but I had an Ace up my sleeve! To solve this problem I used a professional wireless audio system and the result was surround sound and excellent volume on the dance floor area, yet a pleasant listening volume where people was seated socialising. I used a total of six speakers, four of which was used in the dance floor area; two sub bass speakers and two full range speakers. The result was amazing audio quality and a packed dance floor all night as shown in the picture below. If you have a wedding or function booked at the Old Grammar School in Middleton, please feel free to call me to discuss this solution for your event. - The picture was taken by Kyle Hasshall who is an amazing photogragher, to find out more about his work, please visit his website www.kylehassall.com
The BEST WESTERN Broadfield Park Hotel in Rochdale is slightly of the beaten track but a grwat place to hold your event. The venue is a 8th-century redbrick building located in the centre of Rochdale and almost instant walking distance from behind Rochdale Town Hall. It's a wedding venue which I really enjoy working, the staff are fantastic and it’s very easy ground floor access for bands and DJ's, which means I can roll the heavy bass bins and larger equipment without breaking my back. The picture shown above shows the main function room. The up-lighting was also supplied my me.
